My wife and I stayed at Concho Hills Guest Ranch from April 14th through April 18th, and to say it was an exceptional experience would be an understatement. From the moment we arrived, Tim and Marilyn Norris proved to be far more than just hosts—they are true stewards of the land and masters of their craft. Exceptional Hospitality & Accommodations The ranch itself is absolutely beautiful, offering sprawling, incredible views that capture the true essence of the New Mexico landscape. Our accommodations were outstanding—comfortable, clean, and perfectly suited to the rustic elegance of a high-desert retreat. Marilyn and Tim have created an atmosphere that is both welcoming and professionally managed. To top it off, the food was spectacular; every meal was well-prepared and flavorful. Connection and Great Conversation Some of our favorite moments were the great conversations we had after dinner. We discovered a wonderful connection through shared experiences; Tim and Marilyn worked in the same area where I grew up, and we spent hours trading stories about common experiences and the local food we both loved from back home. It added a personal touch that made us feel like we were staying with old friends. The Legend of the Land One of the highlights of our stay was Tim’s incredible depth of knowledge regarding New Mexico history. He is a literal wealth of information and has a gift for storytelling that truly made the stories come alive. He provided us with such great insight and historical context that it deepened our appreciation for the entire region. It wasn't just a stay; it was an education. Vaquero Horsemanship & Patient Instruction As a teacher, Tim is second to none. He is an expert in the Vaquero style of riding and is incredibly patient. My wife, Kim, had a specific goal of finally gaining the confidence and skill to ride outside the training arena. Thanks to Tim’s instruction and encouragement, she accomplished exactly that! Seeing her transition from the arena to the open range was a proud moment and a testament to the quality of training provided here. Final Verdict: If you are looking for an immersive, historical, and high-quality guest ranch experience, look no further than Concho Hills. Tim and Marilyn have built something truly special. This was easily one of the best travel experiences we have ever had. Thank you, Tim and Marilyn, for an unforgettable week!
My wife and I returned to Concho Hills Guest ranch for a third time in two years to learn more about Western reigning, horsemanship and to enjoy the beautiful New Mexico landscape. Tim and Marilyn can tell you why the early Spanish, the Vaqueros and the modern day Cowboys ride the way they do. They've completed years of research on the subject. They don’t just broad brush across these topics and riding techniques, they use them and live by them every day enabling you to experience them as well. The lodging and accommodations are always fantastic, and Marilyn is such a spectacular cook. We'll be back very soon.
Concho Hills Guest Ranch is a wonderful place and Tim and Marilyn make it feel like home. We were bike packing part of the New Mexico Off Road Runner and planned a night here along the way. So we weren't horse riding but thoroughly enjoyed everything about the stay - the views, their company and stories, the meals and accommodations. It couldn't have been better. Marilyn even packed us to go lunches for the ride which was a real game changer that day. Only wish we could have spent longer! The guest rooms are separate from the main house providing good privacy but still spectacular views. There's also laundry facilities accessible and everything is sparkling clean.
After having looked at several Guest/Dude ranches’ websites, my attention was drawn to the detailed and well-written website of the Concho Hills Ranch. I got interested not just because they won The Signature Ranch Award by True West Magazine, but because of the comprehensive descriptions of how and why they started the ranch and the passion in their voice for ranching, riding, the ranching community, and the history of the region. The facilities at the ranch are outstanding, clean as a whistle and comfortable. The home-cooked meals are prepared right in front of you with great care and served with pride. I made sure to be on time for each meal to avoid the food getting cold. A delicious steak grilled to perfection should not be eaten cold. The website almost sounded too good to be true, but I can assure you everything on it is accurate and a true reflection of the quality guest ranch Tim and Marilyn have created. I had a wonderful 5 days at the Concho Hills Ranch, and I whole-heartedly recommend the experience thanks to the care, hospitality and attention Tim and Marilyn paid to me. I strongly recommend that if you want to learn to ride western or are not skilled in it, that you spend a minimum of 4 days there, because they will not take you on trail rides where your horse follows the one in front. They teach you to ride your horse independently and that takes time and effort to learn. As they clearly state on their website, and I can confirm that, learning how to ride the way the horses are trained takes time and dedication, especially if you acquired “incompatible habits” from having learned a different riding style.
We had an incredible time at Concho Hills Guest Ranch! Tim and Marilyn are a wonderful couple—so warm, welcoming, and truly hospitable. From the moment we arrived, they made us feel like part of the family, inviting us into their home and their way of life. This isn’t your average trail ride. The instruction was thorough and hands-on, and by the end of the trip, we genuinely felt like real cowboys. Western-style riding is no joke—it’s challenging, especially if you’re new to it—but that’s what makes it so rewarding. If you’re willing to put in the effort, you’ll walk away with skills and memories that last a lifetime. And let’s not forget the food! Tim and Marilyn cooked all our meals, and every bite was fantastic—hearty, homemade, and exactly what you’d hope for after a long day in the saddle. We would absolutely go back again. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a true western experience, not just a touristy ride.
