Healing and welcoming environment! A great option for yoga classes in Lawrence. 10/10 recommend!

Great Yoga experience, highly recommend. ***Finding the Yoga studio was not clear. You enter through a bike shop and go up the stairs.

I've gone to OmTree Shala (usually over the summer) on and off since they were at 14th and Mass (yeah, a decade ago!). OmTree offers a variety of classes, including vinyasa flow, power yoga, yoga sculpt (yoga with weights), "The Glow" (cardio yoga / weights), pilates, kundalini yoga and yin/wind down lunar flow yoga. Yoga here is a workout, and if you book an "unlimited" deal and go everyday or almost every day for a month, you WILL get in shape. The teachers are friendly and emphasize setting your own personal intentions for your practice. I like how the classes exhaust me and energize me and push me to new limits and tone my body while making me more physically and spiritually aware and balanced. Try it, you'll love it! I also think OmTree fits in especially well at Sunflower! You can pick up some ice tea or fill your water bottle downstairs before heading upstairs or wind down with avocado toast or sweet potato fries afterwards outside as a treat.

I practice at a bunch of different studios across town, and so far I've really enjoyed the classes I've taken here - sculpt & sun flow (with Ambika). The vibe is chill, and the space is pretty. However, not much individualized attention or any adjustments done, so if you're looking for that I would go elsewhere, but the classes feel non-judgmental to me. It's also great to be able to get a coffee after & I really appreciate the scheduling of morning classes (9am & 10am).

I took a class with the owner, Sharyn, when she was still at Vibe. Anytime I’d modify a poses for my medical history the instructor would critique and use me as a model for what not to do, which felt very humiliating. I don’t owe my medical history to anyone but I ended up mentioning it to the class so the instructor would lay off me, which didn’t help. The class wasn’t an inclusive or welcoming environment at all. The instructor didn’t say hi when I came in- she looked my body up and down in a judgmental way and asked “how long have you been practicing?” I went through a 200hr yoga teacher training and mentioned that. The instructor then proceeded to say things through the class like “when you teach someday here’s what you can do” in a very condescending and belittling way, which also felt humiliating. The practice felt superficial only, not spiritual and didn’t show yoga ethics. I walked into class needing some emotional peace and left in an emotional breakdown. I would not recommend a class with this instructor. In response to the owners response: I’m not currently teaching yoga, nor was I at the time of this class. I don’t live in Kansas anymore. But during my year in Lawrence I taught at a gym where people mostly come for other amenities- and so I didn’t view you as a competitor and my review wasn’t intended to be as one. I’ve never received feedback aligning with this perspective, but apologize if you (or the one other person in class) was not comfortable having me as a student. Talking with a class (so in this case one student) about someone else’s practice feels unprofessional and immoral, and aligns with my feelings on this not being a welcoming environment.
