Field Education allows neurodivergent students to be exploited, harassed, and abused. If you hold more obvious marginalized identities, they will pretend to be advocates for those. It’s all about image and the very odd need they have to feel like white saviors. They forget they work for you, the student. They will really have you watch a 4 part power point presentation about your rights as a student who is providing unpaid labor for predatory agencies, and still prioritize protecting the schools relationship with the agency. Autistic students, please avoid this school’s social work program. It scares me to know that Kelly Jones is a key player in the Lawrence school district as well. Autistic parents and autistic students (of all ages), they can and should be making the effort to accommodate your learning styles. The one good thing I will say is that they created one hell of an advocate in me. Funny how things come full circle. I really did learn from the best, in the actual classrooms.
Kansas is a beautiful place.
